Those were the best....the crackling fire....running towards....real homish...never got old....
But NOW theres just peoples heads in boxes that stand in front of a cave. Yeah....it sucks. I want to bring back the old days, the running, the crackling fires, the encampments....I LOVED THAT!

Ditto I would love to experience it! Maybe GWEN's will be similar?

I missed the camp fire screen, as when I started in March last year they had the characters standing on a column in front of a light blue sea. A couple of days later they changed it to the darker blue sea with the whale that spouted, and I miss seeing that.
I would like it to be that when you select a character in one of the boxes at the bottom of the screen, the background and music changes to whatever campaign that character comes from. Alternatively, it changes to whatever the background and music was at the time when the character as created.

Unfortunately game development exists in a world where resources (including time) are limited and budgetted according to a process of expected benefits and opportunity costs. Something would only really stand to waste those resources on a function that works perfectly to expectations when there are other more pressing features and functionalities that require attention.
Nostalgia is fine, but putting it ahead of useful updates would be silly.

If, one day I start Guild Wars to see they made an option to change back to the camp, I'll cry out of happiness for sure. I really hope that GWEN will make some nostalgic changes, which would be logical since you also return to Tyria.
Btw, there have been so many topics about this, and everyone signs it every time. Arenanet people check here too, so why don't they change anything? I dont think it will be much of an effort, and many people will be happy with it. At least post a reply here for example.

Wow...you really know how to damper things. It wouldnt take that much time, just hire some one to work on it about 5 minutes per day, I'm sure it would be done in no time.

You know what the best part is of Nostalgia in gaming? The programming is already done!! This update is completely doable and at minimum cost since the work for it is already done. I mean we played with that screen for months. The only thing that would take a bit of time is updating it for the extra characters and making it possible to choose between them. All in all, it is certainly not a huge task, and would make so many people incredibly happy. If they can make up happy doing something so utterly simple I think it would be worth it.

Almost same turn wheel as we have now. Your characters standing near the fire in a circle around the fire, with their backs toward it. So say you want to get to your 4th slot, but your at your 11th slot. You move your mouse to the right which spins around the fire to the other side. Choose your character, he walks forward, TA DA!

Actually, the programming is NOT done.
This suggestion has been posted MULTIPLE times. Galie has even responded to it. The official a.net response? It is not technicially possible anymore. The character selection page has been updated repeated to include new features, as such, the old pages are not compatiable anymore (region selection link for GW betas in China, links to the GW store, ability to add access keys for multiple campaigns, having more then 4 characters on an account, etc). Again, the official explination by a.net as to why this can't be done is because the old log in page does NOT support the current features in the game.
Do some more research next time before assuming that "it would be really easy to do." This has been brought up on multiple occassions on this site before and the explination I have given has been put on most of them (in fact, one such post is less then a dozen posts down at the time of this writing).

I think it's a great idea and and i've got a great suggestion concerning the background:
i'm thinking of a kind of never ending battle in the background which your character is looking down uppon from a high point, for Tyrian chars it should be the Ascalonians defending the Great Northern Wall against the Charr,
for the Elonian chars maybe a battle against Corsairs/Kournans,
and for the Canthans, a battle against the Afflicted. But your side should ALWAYS be defending.

So hawk find me one of these MULTIPLE threads you are talking about and I'll agree. Until then, i have heard no response from Anet explaining its impossible or cannot be done. Until then we can only keep hoping and wishing.

/signed,
I just was thinking about that the other day.
And i wouldn't mind either if they would let you put in order your characters by age, the oldest first of course (something that i find really logic by i guess they don't)

Savage, I did not mean that there are multiple responses by a.net (they have better things to do then read these forums all day). What I mean is, this has been suggested MULTIPLE times and once Gaile officially responded to it. I've spent the last 15 miniutes trying to find that post, but since I'm on 56k, search is pretty dang slow. Like, its taken my 4 miniutes just to load one search page. Since I don't know wheter the post I'm looking for called it a login page, log in page, log-in page, character screen, character selection screen, loading screen, start page, start screen, sign in screen, etc I have a lot of search variations to run. As soon as I find it, I'll post it.
Please do not be so quick to dismiss a forum regular just because you don't want to believe him.
*forget it, I'm sure some forum regulars who read Galie's post will agree with me though, if they even bother to read this except to scream "use search noob" and close this thread*

Hey IMO they can do it. They have done a lot of incredible things with GW, so I think it can be done. But if you say Gaile said it can't be done in a mystery thread, then you read these forums daily so you must be right.
